EVA & KATIE

“A lot of my ideas come while I’m actively doing something, it’s never sitting at a computer looking at mood boards.”

YOUR IDEAL WAY TO START YOUR DAY?

        Slowly.

WHEN DO YOU FEEL CREATIVELY MOST FULFILLED?

I’m relatively insatiable, but I get glimmers of fulfillment from small things. A print concept coming to fruition, working with my hands creating things, from large pieces for a set design to braiding silks and getting just the right amount of fraying or colour combinations.

.

HOW DO MOVE THROUGH MENTAL OR CREATIVE BLOCKS?

Sometimes with a fair amount of difficulty. I do find that if I’m blocked, I need to walk. A lot of my ideas come while I’m actively doing something, it’s never sitting at a computer looking at mood boards. I find if I am really blocked my answer is to go to an art gallery or a flea market.

WHAT DOES GROWTHMEAN TO YOU?

        Unblocking.

WHAT RESOURCES, TOOLS AND PRACTISES WORK FOR YOU TO SUPPORT YOUR GROWTH?

I find that I need a few things in life to feel balanced. The list is not exhaustive nor in any particular order: friendships, books, exercise, nature and solitude.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I usually read 2-3 books at once. The last few years I have been reading a lot of non-fiction on history and politics so recently I am beginning to blend in a healthy mix of fiction for some breathing space.

I’ve just finished one called The Details by Ia Genberg. I loved it. I am currently diving between A Day in the Life of Abed Salama by Nathan Thrall and All Fours by Miranda July.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

The launch of Project 166 with my husband and our businesses. We have purchased a 1200-acre plot of land in Australia that had been destroyed by traditional farming and logging and we have begun regenerating the land and planting trees on behalf of every person in our businesses. We currently have approximately 1000 staff, which means we will be planting 166,000 trees as our first big goal.

Our endangered species and rare flowers awareness prints that highlight just a few of the countless animals we are losing on this earth. Our biodegradable garment bags. We have finally been able to change out our traditional poly bags with a friendlier solution, however, we went one step further where we have added a barcode on the reverse, and when scanned it takes you to a letter on our website we have started that customers can email to your local governments asking for better solutions to waste, beginning with citywide composting.

I am proud of the groundwork I have done volunteering to work with wildlife in South Africa. Most of all, I am proud that every day I wake up, keep going and don’t quit.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

        Myself.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CURRENT WORK?

I am often inspired by history, nature, flora and fauna. It will show up in almost all of our collections in some way or another but I try to delve deeper into endangered species, rare and extinct flowers and hopefully bring some of what’s happening in our world to the forefront of some people’s minds and start having conversations about it.

YOUR MORNING AND/OR NIGHTTIME RITUALS?

AM: Tongue cleaner, brush, floss, hug my kids, lemon water.
PM: Bath, Brush, Floss, Read.

YOUR FAVOURITE WELLBEING / SELF-CARE PRODUCTS?

2024 was the year that I started to find my groove and what and who works for me and my skin and my body. Buccal massages, body massages, Officine Universelle Buly oils and tongue cleaner. I have only now started to have regular facials and I have recently changed most of my skincare to DMK products. They are super gentle for my sensitive skin.

WHAT RELAXES YOU? HOW DO YOU CALM YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM?

When I was young, and angry about something, my mom would make me do one of two things before going on about it. I would either need to eat a meal or go for a run. Not a lot has changed. Most of my stress can be eased with either a good meal, exercise or a hot bath and a sleep.

ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO INCORPORATE INTO YOUR DAY/WEEK?

Sauna, breath work and maybe meditating (but I will need to learn how first).

“I’m relatively insatiable, but I get glimmers of fulfilment from small things.
